Stephan Krucker is the new chairman of the Republican Town Committee in Litchfield.

Litchfield’s Republican Town Committee last week chose Stephan Krucker to be its new chairman.

Krucker was elected during the town committee’s meeting at Patty’s Restaurant. He succeeds the chairman of the past two years, John Bongiorno, who decided not to seek a new term.

Frank Simone was elected vice chairman. The previous vice chairman, Helen Bunnell, stepped down.

Krucker, commenting after the town committee meeting, said his goal is capitalize on the success Bongiorno helped inspire as chairman.

“I want to get the community involved and get the energy and our members going,” Krucker said.

Krucker will be a strong leader, according to Bongiorno.

“He’s very interested in doing good things for our town and has reached out to me and others to find out how things work,” Bongiorno said. “His sole purpose is to make things better for Litchfield. He’s perfect for the job.”

Krucker and his husband, Norman Sauer, are newcomers to Litchfield and live in the Borough of Litchfield. Sauer serves on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Krucker was recently appointed to fill a seat on the borough Board of Warden and Burgesses.
