Voters at a heavily-attended town meeting Wednesday filled a vacancy on the Region 20 Board of Education with Matthew Terzian.
Terzian, a member of Litchfield’s Board of Education for six years and the board’s chairman for the past four years, won the seat in a rout in the town meeting at Litchfield Intermediate School. His 133 votes easily bested the vote totals of Kara Cruoglio (86) and Margaret Hunt (33).
Nominated by fellow school board member Daniel Clock, Terzian in his speech before the vote said the time had come for him to serve on the Region 20 board to complement his duties on the Litchfield board.
“Region 20 opens its doors in less than seven months and time is of the essence,” Terzian, who has two children in Litchfield schools, said. “There is so much left to do and I am confident that with my background, experience and mindset, I can be an asset from the start and help the board continue to build the best district possible. I can hit the ground running.”
Terzian fills a seat vacated by Joanne Moore in October.
