Jordan Richards of Litchfield will be the new judge in the Litchfield Hills Probate District on Jan. 1, 2023.

In an all-Litchfield contest for the judge seat in the Litchfield Hills Probate District, Jordan Richards has come out on top.

Richards, an attorney in Thomaston specializing in probate law, defeated attorney Kristen Mostowy, 9,940-8,567, according to unofficial results. He will succeed Judge Diane Blick of Litchfield, who is retiring Dec. 31 after 16 years in the position.

The probate district includes Litchfield, Morris, Warren, Thomaston, Harwinton, North Canaan, all towns Richards won, and Canaan, Kent, Norfolk, Sharon, Cornwall and Salisbury, the towns Mostowy won.

Richards appears regularly in the Litchfield Hills Probate District court, which has locations at Litchfield Town Hall and in North Canaan. Commenting Wednesday, he said he admires Blick for the way she does the job of judge and hopes to carry on in the same fashion.
